How to Make Coniferous Trees

List of materials:

Bamboo skewers 4" or 6", toothpicks, or any size suitable for N or HO scale. These are available at most grocerie stores.
Furnace Filter Material from Lowe's: Filtrate Basic custom fit air filter, 20" x 30" sheet.
Rust-Oleum paint: Camouflage, dark brown, grey, or black ultra flat, although any dark color flat spray paint will do.
Aleen's Fast Grab Tacky Glue, in the purple bottle, at craft stores like Michael's.
Aerosol can hairspray: maximum hold, cheap brand will do.
Flocking: Blended Turf, green blend, from Woodland Scenics. Part number "T49".
Tools: scissors, gloves if preferred, top of a cardboard box with holes drilled for holding skewers or trees for spraying, and a big cardboard box to use as a spray booth (or a real spray booth if you have one).
Construction: Building some trees in N - Scale.
Insert the 4" skewers bottom (flat end) into the cardboard box and spray paint with dark flat paint. Let dry for about an hour or so:
Cut the filter material into strips about 1" wide, then cut the strips into 1" squares:
Punch a hole into center of the square with a finishing nail. This is to avoid splintering the skewer and to keep material centered. Use one square per tree. Then insert skewer:
Pull and stretch filter material apart while on skewer:
Apply small amount of Aleen's glue to tip of skewer and twist a few fibers around tree top until fibers stick. Let glue dry 10 to 15 minutes:
With scissors cut filter material into tree shape starting at top, getting rid of corners of square:
Now your tree is ready to be inserted into holes in cardboard box to be spray painted with dark flat paint.
